A thought stopped her in her tracks; that we've been friends for 11 years. That's almost one third of our lives at this point - and a very critical third, I would say. 
People often refer to change like it's a bad thing. "She's changed!" Well, she most certainly has, and so have I. ⠀
But isn't this the beauty of friendships and relationships in general? The ability to evolve together and to not lose sight of the small things that really matter, that weave a malleable and adaptable bond? 
If change is what you must go through to become every bit of your beautiful, genuine self, then I hope you keep changing. And when you stop changing, I hope that it'll only be because you've found equilibrium; peace.

  • Sometimes abyss is a morning cup of slightly sweetened, cheap tasting instant coffee that I stare into with little regard to the passage of time while I summon the emotional strength to go to work.

As I consume it, I wear a modestly fake smile and the right amount of ‘look alive’ makeup, fending off any unsolicited remarks or questions.

Grateful for the livelihood I make off realizing someone else’s dream, I shut the door behind me and with it I shutdown.
